Lewis Williams – Paint the Way ‘Cross the USA by Bike

After 40 years of making art, in 2021, Lewis Williams and his wife completed a dream endeavor, “Painting The Way ‘Cross The USA-By Bike.” The idea brewed on the eve of his 60th birthday in 2019. They travelled by bicycle from March 1 – to August, 1, 2021 from San Diego to Bar Harbor, Maine over 5 months and 4700 miles. A film of their travels debuted at the Plein Air Convention and Expo earlier this year. Their short film will precede this presentation which will include discussion on art/cycling/life and sharing images from across the country depicting how and where they traveled.

Lewis Williams has been creating art for over 40 years.  It’s his life and vocation.  He earned his BFA\Painting from N. Arizona Univ. 1983, and an MFA\ Painting from Utah St. Univ. 1991.  His art interests are wide and varied in all paint and drawing media, printmaking and ceramics.

Since 2012, he’s been exploring sacred landscapes in plein air and studio works.  His teaching experience is extensive, most recently as an Arts Educator with Senior Citizens in Western Co. He has successfully led many students in art demos and workshops. His work has been awarded in many Plein Air events, as well as many national and international juried competitions, with work held in many private collections. Earning four Artist in Residence positions with the BLM, his work was the single piece chosen for reproduction to promote their parks in 2014. He was also selected for the Zion National Park Invitational Plein Air event 2018.
