Description
Hoodoos are formed over millions of years as wind and water erode exposed rock layers at different rates, depending on their hardness. The Toadstools, located in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, were formed as the soft Entrada sandstone erodes more quickly than the harder Dakota sandstone which overlies it, forming a cap that presses down and provides structural strength to the spires.
