GSENM spans over 1.8 million acres, containing five majestic cliffs, or “steps,” that descend like a grand staircase. Each step, sculpted by millions of years of geological forces, reveals layers of vibrant colors and fascinating formations. If you find yourself traveling along Highway 89 near Kanab, take a moment to marvel at this incredible geological phenomenon that has captured the hearts of so many.
Like these distinct geological steps, our supporters each bring unique perspectives and experiences to this landscape. Perhaps you’ve volunteered for one of our stewardship projects, hiked the Monument’s awe-inspiring slot canyons, or simply shared a deep passion for preserving this unparalleled wilderness. Whatever your connection may be, you know how important it is to protect this fragile and precious environment for future generations.

Our work is far from done.
The challenges facing GSENM remain urgent and complex, from invasive species and visitor impacts to the ongoing threats of climate change and political turmoil.
As we look ahead to the coming year, we invite you to take a step to ensure that this remarkable landscape remains wild and accessible to all.
