Tuesday, August 14th at 7 PM: Defending our National Conservation Lands: A presentation by Susan Crook of Conserve Southwest Utah
at the Walt Thirion Gallery-238 W Center St, Kanab, UT 84741
On March 30, 2009 President Barack Obama signed the Omnibus Public Land Management Act. The bill codified the system of National Conservation Lands established by Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt in 2000. It protected millions of acres of public land in the U.S., including the designation of the Beaver Dam Wash and Red Cliffs National Conservation Areas in southwest Utah. Ten years later, we find ourselves defending, rather than celebrating the protections placed on these two NCAs and the entire system of National Conservation Lands. Conserve Southwest Utah is committed to fending off the attacks by Utah’s public officials at all levels of government who would undo these protections for short-term and short-sighted economic gains.
