Learning from the Land – Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument Science Symposium Proceedings, 2006
When the Monument was established in 1996 by presidential mandate, its 1.9 million acres of unspoiled and largely unexplored frontier were recognized as an outdoor laboratory for scientific and historical research and have been managed as such by the Bureau of Land Management.
In 2006, a “Learning from the Land Science Symposium,” convened by the BLM, celebrated the discoveries made within the Monument in the decade since it was established. Well over fifty presentations were given by researchers and scientists on Monument archaeology, geology and paleontology, rangeland ecology, hydrology, ecosystem dynamics and botany, and social sciences. These presentations are available in book form and on a DVD.
The proceedings from the Symposium are available as a 545-page book ($35) or a DVD ($19.95). Shipping and handling are included in the price.
